“Marianne had the sense that her real life was happening somewhere very far away, happening without her, and she didn’t know if she would ever find out where it was and become part of it…all she knew was that when it started, she wouldn’t need to imagine it anymore.” when I first read this i related in terms of dissociation, that feeling of a life being there and inevitable but out of reach by some force.

Connell is really irritating me. how could he do that to Marianne?As much as I want them to be together, I’m glad she had the self respect to break up with him after that. However it makes me sad that she quit school because of it. It seems like she’s better suited to Trinity and I find the role-reversal quite funny. I like Connell, I just hope he gets his act together because I do think him and Marianne work :(
