While reading, I was disturbed when Scythe Goddard told Rowan that he threw Tyger's body parts into the dumpster. Tyger, Rowan's best friend was killed and used to revive Scythe Goddard. After figuring out Tyger died, Rowan asked what they did to the rest of Tyger; Scythe Goddard responds that he was "Thrown away with the rest of the garbage."(306) This scene was evil since Goddard hurt while he was already griefing.

Through the development of the story, Slayd Bridger starts to leave his new identity behind and return to the old Greyson. Furthermore, as he stays with the Tonists, his record gets refreshed like a man drinking a cold glass of lemonade on a hot sunny day. As mentioned in the book, "Rowan was given a clean slate."(290) Overall, Rowan's fresh start at life benefits him because it got rid of his scandalous reputation.

One part that intrigues me is how Greyson Tolliver's non-existent record effects his life. After Agenter Traxler was gleaned, he felt hopeless because he thought that he'd be stuck in his new unsavory life as Slayd Bridger. However, now it benefits him because Scythe Constantine isn't able to track him down. "Not a single public record they were able to dig out of the Thunderhead's backbone placed him there."(280)

One part that was extremely suspenseful was when Rowan was captured. Furthermore, I had highly suspected that Scythe Brahms would kill him because he says "I can glean you and burn you."(227) Even though he wasn't going to glean Rowan I was still concerned after he said "We have much more interesting plans for you"(227). Since Neil Shusterman ended the chapter on a climatic cliffhanger, I was eager to keep reading.

I was aghast when I read that Scythe Rand was still alive. Her remains were burned, so it was possible to be revived. However, there is no doubt that the scythe with the notorious "emeralds on her bright green robe"(62) was Scythe Rand. This plot twist was very intriguing and adds potential to an entirely new conflict. Furthermore, Scythe Rand's return keeps me at the edge of my seat, anxious to continue reading.
