Less than The Thirteenth Sacrifice, this volume didn't have the same urgency and the stakes didn't feel as high. Toward the end, it felt like the author just wanted to wrap this one up so she could get Samantha back to Salem where she writes her so well. Overall, I was entertained but I feel like this piece doesn't clear the bar Viguié set for herself with the first installment of the series.
