Alluring, twisted, and riveting Octavia delivers. Her award winning pieces Bloodchild and Speech sounds were really great stories in the book however her autobiographical essay on writing, Furor Scribendi, is my favorite. Reading the afterwords are like a peek into Octavia’s mindset and opinions of her work. Typically, I don’t love short stories but Octavia finds an engaging way to tell her mystical tales..

“At its best science fiction stimulates imagination and creativity. It gets reader and writer off the beaten track, off the narrow, narrow footpath of what ‘everyone’ is saying, doing, thinking—whoever ‘everyone’ happens to be this year.”
