Note the main difference between the movie and the book: the lack of Mercerism. It was PKD's variant view of Christianity. Tragic, yet meaningful... even though false.

Tragic, yet meaningful... even though false."Mercerism was interesting, but my favourite concept, which PKD unjustly barely uses in the book itself, is the Penfield Mood Organ. You could make a story out of that alone, yet it's almost completely forgotten about after that stunner of an opening.
