Mercerism was interesting, but my favourite concept, which PKD unjustly barely uses in the book itself, is the Penfield Mood Organ. You could make a story out of that alone, yet it's almost completely forgotten about after that stunner of an opening.

I recall that he says there was a grand reward for whoever found the proper setting for Nirvana (the bliss state of meditative revelation, not the band).
