The view from Columbia Street I have seen, but much obstructed and changed. As she saw it a hundred years ago there were no grimy warehouses thrusting up from the waterfront, there was no Brooklyn Bridge, no Statue of Liberty, no New York sky¬ line. Somewhere I have read that in 1870 the tallest building in Manhattan was ten stories.
