"The Lost Princess Man," John Barnes. Clever premise, but aspects of the writing didn't really work for me.

"The Waiting Stars, " Aliette de Bodard. Set in de Bodard's Xuya universe, The two story threads came together in a satisfying yet poignant way.

"Firstborn," by Brandon Sanderson. A couple times I thought I knew where it was going. I was wrong. Enjoyed it.

"Riding the crocodile," by Greg Egan. Interesting premise, slow paced.

I really liked " All the Painted Stars," by Gwendolyn Clare.
