Still a rough read for me. I think this is slow just cause of the style- not a big fan. Clearly beautifully written, just freaking sad to read. Although the entire book so far has been worth it for the few pages where she tells her story of her search to see a moose (v relatable) and I really enjoyed reading about the Italian landlords above her in NYC. You finish reading feeling like you know them!

I was wrong, it wasn't a new section only on "the present" but just a chapter. Regardless, the book is incorporating at least -a few- positive memories, so I'm not completely annoyed. I do find myself skimming her poetic metaphors a little bit, I won't lie. It is beautiful done, but doesn't interest me very much. Regardless, happy to hear her international stories.

Just reached where the section is titled 'the present" and thank God because the first 80 pages are truly chaotic. Every sentence goes back and forth between ages and situations and all of them make me sad.
I have to hope that she is leading up for an ending to the book where she says her life now is manageable and that she has good relationships with her brother and mother. I think I should stick to fake stories lol

Still trying to read some of the books on my shelf that I never opened up. This one was lent to me by sar years ago.
I was hesitant to read something that wasn't fiction but she insists it is good and is a fan of memoirs. However-she also describes it being "like the Glass Castle". My worry is I don't want the book to depress me & make me want to stop reading.. The prologue and first chapter- not exactly uplifting...
