Hoping for some juicy insider secrets about how publishers influence review spaces but right now I fear this is just a bunch of "When writing a review, it's important to know about the genre :-)"

This section confirmed a theory that I've had for a while: The reviewing space for books is fucked.

It insists that WRITERS review books (which is atypical, we don't aks directors to review movies) and then heap disadvantages for writing negative reviews. There are no upsides and all MAJOR downsides to being negative.

This effectively handcuffs the major review circles. Negativity is mutually assured destruction.

A few good notes on HOW reviewers review but this is pretty close to the bullseye of why I think so much Nonfiction is "blah" and stretched out to the point of losing any actual insight
