I'm struggling to find the purpose behind this book. I can see that she had a routine and she describes a vivid picture of the city; but thus far she has even admitted that she doesn't know why she's in Rome and writing this book.
Just learning her personal history as well, the story is hollow and hard for me to get through.

I don't know if this chapter is starting more interesting or if I just want to get through it. The topic of sleep is much more interesting than a historic take on a path through the city.

I now realise that this entire first chapter is a monotonous account of Bowen navigating Rome on her own, seemingly purposeless. She doesn't know why she's here and the day feels long because it feels repetitive and never ending. She considers everything and everyone to be alike because nothing has changed in her time thus far.
