There is a TON of body horror in this that I was not expecting. Nor wanting. There was none in the previous novel so this was very much a shock. As we go on, there seems to be a parasite of some kind moving around in his head that he can feel. Even if it later turns out to be a trick of his mind, it's real to him, and it's gross.
