My Name is Red and Kar delighted me in brilliant translations but, on the other hand, both English translations of Kara Kitap were completely unreadable. There's a stylistic problem translating long and laborious sentences from Turkish into English that only a translator who has permission to take huge liberties with the text can overcome.
