So ‘Lizzy’ is the sister of ‘Beth’? Aren’t those both just diminutives of Elizabeth? Do they have another sister name Betty? 🤦🏼♀️

Oh goodness, it makes me very angry when that happens.

Yikes! Yes. That would be nice to know. I once read a (what I thought would be) sweet regency romance and read the worst and most graphic rape scene and felt dirty and creeped out for days. And it was between the two main characters.
Hate that for you. Sorry you got caught unawares. It’s the worst.
I’m looking at the blurb on amazon and goodreads and the book ‘jacket’ and there are no content warnings. There is domestic abuse and rape frequently described and this is listed as a light hearted tale. Wtf? Now I’m reading spoilers and I don’t want to continue.
Well I’m definitely rating and reviewing this one even though I’m barely in it for my DNF. I can’t even imagine if someone had personal trauma from something like this and went in blind to read a ‘sweet western romance’It’s the ones who call themselves wholesome who are the worst, at least in the dark romance, you get trigger warnings.
I know there are readers and authors who disagree but content warnings are important for others’ mental health
As a reader who doesn’t always look at them, I can say I’m fine with them being there. It’s easy to avoid if you are worried about spoilers. Or even saying ‘there are content warnings on the authors webpage’ is enough for those who are wary of certain things to go do a quick check.
😬😬😬 I agree that it is NOT ok when scenes like that pop up in romance that is marketed as light-hearted or sweet or mainstream. At least in dark romance, you have an expectation going in that you might encounter those things even if there aren't trigger warnings. Even as somebody who does read and enjoy dark books, I don't necessarily want to encounter those elements in other subgenres. I like to know what I'm getting into before I go in so I can be emotionally/mentally prepared.
