This book has one of the weirdest characters I've ever encountered in fiction. Not weird as in simply unusual, but weird as in bizarre, nonsensical, uncanny. Miss Trimming as a character makes little sense. An overbearing, possibly unhinged, religious fanatic of a housekeeper who runs the house as if it's her own, her master both afraid and devoted to her while she essentially keeps him as if under house arrest.
