Hmm. This reminds me of the excellent series of books starting with I Am Number Four by Pittacus Lore.

I originally thought this might have been some sort of docu-fiction about where Earth's leaders should be heading. I was WAY off. This is an excellent scifi that I am enjoying much more than anything else I've read in this genre, for a loooong time. (So far anway.)
