This feels something like Kundera's "The Unbearable Lightness of Being." Why is that?

"I didn't find the answer that afternoon. I found only late yet tolerable melancholy and cold April air. .... Can a person be gathered up like that, piece by piece, through the memories of others, and what would you get in the end? Would some Frankensteinian monster emerge from all that? Something patched together from absolutely incompatible memories and ideas from so many people?"

Kundera's influence? The book was immensely important to many people. Time Shelter sounds fascinating. Thank you for reading, Laura. I'd not heard of it til now.

Perhaps something to do with the way Gospodinov evokes time and place, or time and memory. Or perhaps it is the way people relate to one another in this novel, the ways in which identities are constructed through many lenses. I wonder if other readers have felt this, too, or if it is purely my own constructed connection.
