Rules for judging:1) don't be committing intentional sin and think to talk to someone else about their sin. That's hypocritical. 2) it's not about condemnation, it's about reconciliation. If the sin isn't addressed, it can't be repented and forgiven and that person can't partake of the grace of God fully.

Aaah! I see now. It is a Christian's job to love those not in the church into the church and to honestly and lovingly judge those IN the church, not those outside of it. IE-fellow Christian doing wrong, speak up and say something. Don't judge the rest of the world, that's not our job. We aren't the world's morality police. It's kind of...freeing actually.

Judging-"honestly and lovingly addressing sin in another person's life." I don't have the foggiest on how to actually DO that, sad to say. Confrontation of any sort is uncomfortable. Also, I kinda need to take care of my sins before I start "helping" anybody with seeing and dealing with their sin.

"A hypocrite is not someone who struggles with sin; a hypocrite is someone who pretends he or she doesn't struggle with sin." In my thoughts, a "holier than thou, my poo don't stink" person.

"...as the church we were designed to be a people who would have the ability to see beyond ourselves. That has always been the intention for the church, but that has not always been carried out by the church."

Coincidence? Author's talking about a "towel and basin" life, discussing how Jesus washed the feet of His disciples the night of the last supper. At the women's church retreat, the theme was "clothe yourself in Christ". The last segment of the program? Taking on the towel that Jesus put on to dry the feet of the disciples. Awesome reinforcement!

Poppycock! It's pure speculation that the disciples were discussing self-promotion and who was the greatest during the last supper.

Not sure if this is coincidence or not, but I was debating whether to stay and fight or go regarding a situation I'm involved in. At this point of the book, the author is talking about an active faith. The first action verb he's discussing? Go. Lol, I think I have my answer. Very freeing. :)

The Ten Commandments and other commandments of God are the guardrails on the highway of life. I like that imagery. It completely makes sense. They are there to guide and protect you, not restrict you.
