Teal is starting
Buddy read with Linda!

It's been at least 7 years since I read the previous book in the series (back before I discovered GR, so I wasn't tracking read dates), and whooo boy that's a long time ago for something this complex and jam-packed with characters. 😬

Ngl, some skimming has been happening. In the years since I read the last book in the series, I'd forgotten how much I dislike Claire. The scenes from her POV are all domestic, and mostly mind-bogglingly boring.

William's storyline is interesting, but unfortunately parts of it don't make sense to me. Presumably due to not remembering stuff I should remember from previous books...?

Linda ~ they got the mustard out! ~ This should only take us about a month. 🤪

Teal Uhhh, that prompted me to check the page count.

😮

Annery Good luck! I look forward to your updates & review. I loved the first four books, got through the The Fiery Cross and then ... I couldn't go on. Mind you I've reread the first a number of times but I was mainly interested in Claire & Jamie and not the myriad of people that have been introduced. I didn't even go on with the tv series. I'm a quitter.

Teal Thanks, Annery! I read the series back in the phase of my life when I was dependent on whatever was available to borrow from my library. (No book budget to speak of.) So it's not entirely compatible with my tastes, and I have so many more options available now... but, well, I came this far, so I'll try one more! The prospect of the buddy read was what sold me. 😊

Hopefully you're in for a Happy Surprise? I'm rooting for you and Linda 🥳

Somehow I failed to fully assimilate what you were trying to tell me. 🤯😱😂

Thank you! I had given up the series awhile ago too. Well, more accurately, I'd put it on hold until the last book was published. But then the show happened, and I wanted to be caught up on the books as I watched the show, so I've slowly been rereading the older books and now reading the newer ones I passed on earlier. I was pleasantly surprised by how good book 8 was when I read it last year or the year before. But then, it did largely dispense with the plethora of second- and third-tier characters too. Funny how that worked out. 😉

Snjez Happy reading, Teal and Linda! 💕 Looking forward to your reviews. 🤗 I'm like Annery. Worse, actually. I've only read the first book and quit the show during season 3. 🙈😅

Teal Thanks, Snjez! 😊

Sweet Jesus 🙈😳 This series is starting to seem more daunting than The Wheel of Time 🥲

message 15: by Teal (new) - added it

Teal I wonder which has a larger total page count?

message 16: by Tamara (new)

Tamara So I did a bit of digging and calculating, and the rough estimate is that WoT is around 4 million words and Outlander is only around 2 mils 😂

message 17: by Teal (new) - added it

Teal Wow, glad WoT isn't on my TBR. 😆

The first book did not impress me and I quit it.

Plus, the series was finished by Sanderson, so that was another thing going against it. 🤭
