The observations about how patriarchy makes the world unsafe for women don't need to be text, they can just be subtext. I feel like Winstead is trying to make sure I understand something I'm already well aware of, but instead of complaining about it (like Shay does) I'm actively working to change it.

OMFG this is ridiculous. The man is transparent, I can see right through him! Mr. Cellophane!
I've been through enough in my life that I can see all the steps this story is taking, so it will take a lot to surprise me from this point. It's not even fun in the titillating way, it's just annoying that the main character still doesn't understand what happened to her.
