An occasional student who comes upon the name may wonder idly who William Stoner was, but he seldom pursues his curiosity beyond a casual question. Stoner's colleagues, who held him in no particular esteem when he was alive, speak of him rarely now; to the older ones, his name is a reminder of the end that awaits them all, and to the younger ones it is merely a sound which evokes no sense of the past and no identity.

Praj Stoner reminds me of the numerous faculty names carved on the large wooden board displayed in the university offices which you scroll down wondering if you could put a face to these names during an alumni reunion.

Rakhi Dalal :) Though it is irrelevant here but I can't help mentioning that I saw an ad on TV today that used the serial Malgudi Days' tune(instrumental) and that made me feel nostalgic :)

Praj Really? which ad was that? Malgudi Days was a gem of a TV serial :)

Rakhi Dalal It is some soft drink I guess, something like Kaala Jamun, I don't remember, but I saw it for the first time today. Guess it is a new one.
I loved that serial too :)

Dolors This book is getting viral on GR...just like Rushdie's ratings! ;P

Praj Haha! I think Rushdie might just up the game:)
