I'm just going to say right now that I can tell the author knows his beer. As a beer guy and brewer myself, I am loving the mention of colonial porter brewed with spruce, a common botanical in the States, before prime hop climates in the Pacific Northwest were settled. Sierra Nevada Pale being mentioned. Even Chimay gets a nod!
