On the way to her murdered cousin's funeral, Ellie stops at a gas station and we get this: "Ellie forked over the 20 and received a crinkled 5&10 in change. Lincoln and Hamilton were certainly easier on the eyes than Indian Killer Jackson. Not that she was particularly thrilled to see any early president." It feels unlikely to me that this teenager would be thinking about images on bills she's seen a hundred times.
