Bitter knew her name was heavy, but she hadn't minded, because it was honest.

So basically what happened was, I couldn't choose what to pick up nex between Bad Cree, The Mirror Empire and The Calculating Stars (a BR in another group) nor any of the, dunno... six? seven? books on my "currently reading" shelf and then suddenly, magically, the answer came to me...

PET

I'm enjoying it so much that I'm considering reading Bitter right after, although I can physically hear my reading schedule giving off a shrill scream of pure terror at the mere thought of me picking up an extra read this month 😂

What about you?? Thinking of checking this out? And you, Jassmine? 😬

Alia hahahaha Yeah, it looked like you were on some mischief indeed. 🤭
I am a bit unsure what will come next, aside of the Tensorate 2. At times I think I will read Pet, at times nop. I am still a bit adverse to reading YA, not because I am a very serious person (my raccoonish self is indignant at the idea), but because they left me feeling that something is missing. I am unsure about a lot of things lately hahaha and have little time, I am packing to move and... you know. Btw, you are very settled and stuff from yours?

I wanted to read The Calculating Stars from some time. When are you reading it?

Jassmine Elena wrote: "What about you?? Thinking of checking this out? And you, Jassmine? 😬"

I'm planning to read it - I'm craving more Emezi after Freswater. I'm just not sure about the order to pick it up in...
I already finished Bad Cree (loved it), now working on finishing Rootwork... and then it's between The Mirror Empire and Pet... but I think I'll go for The Mirror Empire first, but who knows... we'll see when the time comes...
(I have Tensorate on audio, so that's different line...)

Sorry for the late reply! I comment on stuff and then *poof out* dramatically, how rude of me 😅

I'm completely with you when it comes to books for a younger audience, I feel exactly the same. It doesn't help that the few times I did venture to check out super beloved, highly recommended YA titles, I usually ended up... having my prejudices confirmed 😂

For some reason though, Pet immediately grabbed my attention and... held it till the end! The prose is really strong, the characters well-rounded, and while the story itself is message-driven it never came across as didascalic or pedantic to me. I don't know if it'll manage to sneak by your YA radar as well, but if you do decide to give the book a try, I'd be super curious to see what happens between the two of you 😁

AS FOR THE CALCULATING STARS!!!!!!!
I started yesterday, I'm barely fiftish pages in, and I'll likely proceed slowly because life is suuuuuper hectic these days and I don't have much free time at all. I'm saying this in case, you know, you'd feel the pull to, dunno, perhaps join me?? *waggles eyebrows suggestively*

Elena Jassmine wrote: "I'm planning to read it - I'm craving more Emezi after Freswater. I'm just not sure about the order to pick it up in..."

Haha yes, BR anarchy is fun but it also leaves me feeling like I'm literally incapable to choose for myself 😂

I've also only read Freshwater before Pet and I'm *impressed* by Emezi's range. It was a totally different beast (and not only for the obvious reasons, being targeted at a younger audience and all) while being somehow still very recognizably an Akwaeke Emezi book.

I'll pick up The Read Threads of Fortune once I'm done with The Calculating Stars (next next up in line, The Mirror Empire) so I guess/hope I'll see you there 🤓

(WHAT has our life become? I feel like we're running around from book to book, thread to thread, trying to catch up with each other and always missing each other by a couple of minutes because the BR wheel is FOREVER SPINNING and by the time you reach thread A someone has already moved to thread B trying to catch up with someone else who's by now reading book C 😂😂)

☝🏽 Yes, this is my life now 🤭
Which reminds me we need to set date for The Stone Sky... just saying, I don't want it to get lost in the flood of BRs 🤭

Yey! I'm starting Red Threads once I'm done with The Thirteen Problems, but I can also stop that one and switch if it will be needed. That one is more of a casual listen and it's basically a short story collection, so I'll try to synch for Tensorate 😁
Feeling a little like this right now: (view spoiler)

Yeah, their range is definitely impressive. I'm really excited for Pet 😁

Wait for me with Bitter 🥺 I'm pretty confident I will want to read it once I'll finish Pet
(though I admit that nothing is ever certain...)

Eeeeeehhhh, that´s interesting to know 🐱‍👤 I´ll consider that through my indecision ❤️

hahaha You actually went to the point, for example, The calculating stars... 🙈 That would have been awesome, but this last week and the couple that are coming are going to be extra angsty for me. I deserted all BR for the moment and I am just hoping to start at least Tensorate 2. 😭

I actually dont really care where the BR train takes me, btw. Now I miss so much being on board. 🐱‍🚀!

Eeeeehh, more hype! Evil women! 😈

Elena Bitter officially ON HOLD! 😎

@Jassmine,: absolutely zero pressure on this, mind you! I'd be super happy to read it together and to wait for the chance to do so - and, let's be real here, I have so much stuff to read and BRs I'd like to join, it's actually a relief you gave me the perfect excuse not to start it immediately after Pet 😂

Elena @Alia: OOF! Real sorry to hear you're going through rough times. Sending positive vibes your way! Take care, take your time, and come back to us full of good BR energy 💜

(I too love this chaotic BR vibe of feeling like a tiny little fish among a school of awesome books and friends to read them with, but it's also very true it can end up feeling stressful 😅)

Elena Also, also! The other day I was browsing the shop of this Italian artist I love, she recently came out with new cool products and this new design made me 😂😂 because it TOTALLY made me think of you, Alia! (and our general Messy BR Energy 😬)

(I had to add some random spaces here and there so GR wouldn't freak the f*************k out 😅)

TRUE! I was just looking at the calendar for June & July and... WHAT HAPPENED TO OUR "SMART" SUMMER PLANS??! July is a KILLER 😂

I'll head over to The Obelisk Gate thread during the weekend so we can brainstorm there, thanks for the reminder!

(I'm in the new flat - finallyyyy!! - but sans laptop and GRing via phone is stressing the life out of me!! I can do only a little a day, what with the teenie tiny keyboard and GR being its usually glitchy self)

I'm starting Red Threads once I'm done with The Thirteen Problems, but I can also stop that one and switch if it will be needed.

I'm not particularly engrossed in The Calculating Stars and I'd happily ditch it in favor of the Tensorate BUT realistically speaking I won't get to it before next week (I left my omnibus at my mom's, along with my laptop... Strategically and practically minded I am *not* 🙃)

Feeling a little like this right now

😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

Alia Oh,Mai.Gaaaaaad.!!!! I need that cup! Bad! Raccoon bad hahahaha Love it!

Yey! So nice you are installed in your new flat! Your lap and BR adventures will follow soon :D

Thanks for the vibes, sure need them ❤️ Just yesterday we got the keys to the new house and... it is a mess, had some problems with the previous owner, but we were too advanced in the process, so, we just have to pull through. The BRs are not stressing me fortunately, it is just that I have so much to fix and work out that I have no time to read. 🙈

Also, I remember some "sensible" BRs in June/July? Do we even know what sensible or smart is? 🤭

Sorry to hear The calculating stars isnt working out, but at least I hope to haphazardly join next week too with Tensorate 2.

Started Pet today and I'm already certain that I'll want to read Bitter. Where we'll fit all of those books is the question...

That mug is 🔥🔥🔥

ARGH!!! I didn't know you were dealing with a move too, so sorry to hear you're having problems with your new place! I hope it's manageable (if annoying) stuff and you'll soon be able to make a home out of it.

Stay strong, stay raccoon!! 💜
