This is real and compelling mathematics. Mark Kac (whom I met shortly before he died) wrote the book in a lively a vigorous, rigorous style yet it isn't boring like so much modern mathematical writing today. Even modern physics is becoming boring due to the influence of formal.mathematics. This is even more surprising given the main point of the book is that statistical independence can arise outside probability.
