Prologue mildly interesting, but 6 chapters in I am bored to death and wondering how much further I'll be able to go. Massive description about the town of Hopewell, Ill. Way too many eye/hair colors and shapes of noses and heads to keep up with. Pages and pages of exposition about a strike at the mill. So far, the only thing I find truly interesting is the mysteriousness of the magic-wielding, alcoholic grandma.

Things started picking up a bit in Ch 8, but every time a char is intro'd we get more VERY detailed physical description. The girl (14) being focused on acts too mature (esp. @ age 6) for her age. The author repeats himself so much that it begins to look like desperate filler just to achieve a word count. Sylvan char is very annoying. But... Ch 12-13 actually had me willing to turn the pages. Keeping fingers crossed.
