49% update: I'm so confused. What did I just read? This feels like a rough draft for a dramatic teen rom scene from a fanfic - NOT a chapter from one of the most read, top rated YA fantasy books from the '00s. I thought the characters were being manipulated by magic or something, it was so surreal, dramatic and simply out of place. WHAT AM I READING. I wrote throwaway chapters like this when I was SIXTEEN.
