Really enjoying this. The protagonist (Heebs) started life as kind of a street urchin character in the author's Maggie Sullivan series. Now, circa 10 years after the end of WW2, he's all grown up and a private eye himself. This has a lot of characteristics that I loved in the Maggie series, such as mid-20th century milieu, with the same high-calibre writing.
