Prohibitively dense academic-ese. Freudian terms, overly written phrases, elitist in its assumption that readers will be familiar with the psychoanalytical references. Does the author not want the work to be accessible to readers who are not entrenched in academia? Wish I had been keeping track of the number of uses of the phrase "in other words" after a particularly obtuse quotation (often not actually clarified).
