Still enjoying it! It is a novel which operates at two levels: providing a vivid portrait (and critique) of Restoration France in the period between 1815-1830 and analyzing the character types produced by this particular society, most notably the young, not well born, and ambitious Julien Sorel, the brooding individual pitted against a closed society which by definition cannot and will not open to him.

My first foray back into serious literature is going well! Stendhal's writing is magnificent. I'm hooked!
