FDR encouraged Eleanor to become independent —away from the glaring eyes of Sarah Delano, FDR’s mother.

Every book I read about the Roosevelt’s, I always keep hoping that Alice , Teddy’s daughter, would be nicer.

ME: Maybe this time Alice will do something that is endearing. Maybe there will arise a great self reflection.

ME: But alas, no.

When Eleanor found out that Sarah Delano (Franklin’s mother) felt that Eleanor was not good enough for FDR, Eleanor said, “We will just have to invite Sarah wherever we go. We can travel as three.”
