Hi, Juli, 2 shorter books I enjoyed a lot in the last few years are Montana 1948 by Larry Watson (not a mystery exactly but crime elements) and Nothing to See Here by Kevin Wilson (not a mystery at all). Also, I think YA sometimes reads faster, and I liked The Inheritance Games trilogy quite a bit, and there's definitely mystery in those!
