Gods, it's even worse a solution. It all abuse apologies and a big Oh actually it is this character who did it.
I wouldn't mind the whole surprising reveal if this weren't so pretentiously constructed. As if the aithor desperately tried to stretch the text to over 200 pages. bad

Gonna take a wild guess who the accomplice is: if it isnt the butler, it's the new servant... because cliche...

Are we really making excuses for an abuser? Really? Are we really doing this? Are we really being all "oh the abusive behaviour that was absolutely in line with the abusive behaviour before was totally not abusive because the abuser only wanted to be loved and was tricked into acting like she did now, nevermind the abuse before"? Are we really doing this, book???

Wow, the most predictable, cliched and uninspired solution to possible happen happened to this?

pov prota: Tells us a whole chapter she doesn't understand things nor does she give any implications of having had a Heureka moment.
also prota just one chapter later: tells us how she totally understood everything and almost immediately had her Heureka moment...

Oh however could the dead woman have drowned in her bedroom, with her husband being soaked when they found her after his scream? Oh you say he had the servants prepare a bath in the bedroom? YOU DON'T SAY!

154 pages now and it's starting to feel like about twice that. The characters are obnoxious, grating and nothing is happening.
For those that know me: This books makes me almost want to apologize to Miss Zeichnerin and Miss Rowntree with how dull and bland and flat it is. it's a new low...

So... our heroines of this serious are someone who constantly judges others by their looks and we are supposed to agree with her because she's an abuse survivor, and a autistic-coded murderess who kills people on a mere whim but it's okay because you see she's the hypersmart kind of autistic?
look, i have nothing against the latter concept as such but the execution is very grating and nope
