I hate to say this but the flashback chapters are unnecessary in this book. The events and characters, and how they are now, make for a compelling story. The history takes things out of sync.

Essentially, this is a back and forth between past and present, when these guys first met and... now.

See what happens when we get away from all the medical speak and focus on the characters? Good schtuff.
