"Most Respected and Beloved Party, Most Respected and Beloved Elder Brother leaders of the Party, I ask the most respected and beloved party and brothers to have mercy on me. I have never even once had the least feeling of betrayal against the party . . . Given the ideals I hold what can I do but tell the Party, sincerely, that I very much fear this kind of death . . ."

The Khmer Rouge who were part of Cambodia's Buddhist culture did outlaw Buddhism but since it was so ingrained in ther society they took ideas from the Buddha and let it influence their destructive path. The "calm" of Buddhism is what they wanted to resemble. Such an interesting sad part if world history. One big labor camp to get rid of all their years of exploitation and every other communist reasoning.

This is very interesting. There is a whole Left vs Right war happening here and the peasants said to the Lon Nol Rightest bullies "if you want our rice paddies for free eat dirt" then they killed the collectors, took their guns and in their fervor they burned down a "youth agricultural settlement" and shot at more imperial guards. Exciting heroic build up to one of the most horrifying events in world history!
