Gaskill is proving his chops as a historian with an amazingly compelling description of the founding of Springfield. Early colonial New England is a surprisingly dynamic and religiously diverse (as long as you're only talking about flavors of Protestants) place in the 1640s. If nothing else just this first chapter is enlightening.
