Tori's father has remarried a woman with three sons. They are triplets named Blake, Shawn, and Cole. At first, they all give Tori a hard time and seem to hate her. With time, Cole warms up to Tori's younger sister, Suzie. Shawn begins to warm up to Tori after she helps him get a better grade in math. However, Blake has not warmed up to either of them and continues to be mean to Tori.

Shawn, Cole, and Blake have all warmed up to Tori. Tori's best friend, Mark has admitted to liking Tori. However, he was angry when he found out that Tori is the stepsister of the triplets. When told that Mark liked her, Tori realizes she has feelings for him as well. Later in the book, Blake tells Tori that no one loves her. With those words echoing through her mind, Tori gets in a car crash and falls into a coma.
