I was just reading about the name of The Judge's gun, "Et in Arcadia Ego", which is mentioned, but never explained. It is taken from a painting by Guercino showing two young shepherds staring at a skull. So it represents death and symbolises the fact that death is present everywhere. Even in Arcadia. This makes a lot of sense...
