i read the titular essay in college and remember very little of it, and that i dragged myself through it. i was sad to not be a didion girl, but kept collecting her books anyway (this, Slouching Towards Bethlehem, Let Me Tell You What I Mean). after many failed attempts at the latter title on a trip to europe last year, i chose to try this one this time. incredibly happy to say that i'm enjoying it so so so much :")
