Somehow I failed to realize that this was about two surly teenagers.

😐

Oh well, only 397 more pages to go!

I'm now at the stage where my normally intense spoiler-aversion gives way to the need to read reviews in the hope of finding motivation to keep going. In other words, I can see the DNF from here, but I'm still resisting it.

Rosa Oh! I have this one, the cover lured me in. I'll wait for your take on it :D

Anomaly I apparently own this one, yet have no recollection of buying it. Hmm. Curious to see how it goes for you 🤔

Teal @Rosa and @Anomaly — Guys, I'm struggling. At this point I wouldn't mind if all the characters (every single last one of them) died. Although given that this world is chock-full of necromancers, death wouldn't necessarily put an end to them. Maybe then they'd just be stuck as surly teenagers FOR ALL TIME. 😫

Rosa Uh-oh... not reassuring...

Anomaly Oh no. This doesn't bode well!

Agla I also have this on my tbr so your assessment is not encouraging. Especially since I was waiting to own the whole series before starting, I may start earlier than that now...

Teal Agla, I was *so* sure I was going to like this! I read the sample, thought it was awesome, and bought the book based on that. (On sale, of course, because I am a cheapskate.) And I *almost* bought the 2nd book (when it went on sale), that's how confident I was. But wow, I am just not feeling it. At least, not in a good way. Definitely feeling it in an annoyed way.

Agla @teal that's too bad my friend, hate thay feeling. I have this book on KU and bought the 2nd or 3rd book on sale as well so I'm a cheapskate too 😉

Lori S. I tried it a while back and just couldn't get into it. I don't mind the teenagers, I just didn't like the writing or the setting.

WhatAStrangeDuck I got it as a freebie and I know that I finished it, even though there was much eye-rolling involved. So, I think there is something there. I just can't remember what it is.

The world-building is pretty amazing, when it's not super confusing. Which is all the time but there is is a story there. too.

Oh, yes, okay, at one point they get to the quest and then it gets kind of interesting. Because, y'know, quest.

All in all, the author is a bit too full herself IMHO but if I finished a couple hundred pages I didn't even pay for, there must be something there. I can't have been THAT bored out of mind.

Faint praise. I wish I had written a review at the time. I think there are some good bones (no pun intended) but...

Least constructive comment ever made. I know. Sorry about that. No hand-holding available.

Haha for me it's exactly the other way around. Looks like we're going to end up at the same place, though.

*snort*

I like the world-building — or at least I like the gusto with which she's approached it, all batshit bananapants OTT-ness. But these characters... ugh. They're borderline unbearable.
