5. Mesmeric Revelation: 2/5, interesting short story, admittedly hard to follow but you get the gist and the end is good.

11. The Mystery of Marie Roget: 2/5, this was hard to get through, repetitive and kind of boring. There’s not much actually happening, just Dupin picking apart news reports of the crime and drilling down to land at who likely did it and how to find them. It’s interesting in that sense, from a technical point of view following Dupin’s reasoning.

10. The Murders in the Rue Morgue: 3/5, I really liked the clever deduction tied to the language heard/described by the various characters early on.

7. The Thousand-and-Second Tale of Scheherazade: 2/5, the intended humor is obvious, it just didn’t land for me.

4. Von Kempelen and His Discovery: 2/5, well written but I’m afraid out of time and context, like some of the hoaxes and critiques, this is just random and trivial.

3. The Balloon-Hoax: 3/5, this was far more digestible than Hans Pfaall.

2. The Gold-Bug: 3/5, looking past Jupiter’s dialogue, a fun little mystery.
