Do you guys remember when private real estate developers coaxed Dianne Feinstein to sell public housing units to redevelop them as office space, furthering housing inequity and displacing residents out of the Mission district?

SPUR is responsible for displacing poor elderly residents that lived in low-rent soma hotels and failed to build an adequate housing supply to rehouse these residents. But we got the Moscone Center so that’s cool.

With the support of labor, conventioneers (?), property owners, and exclusive business organizations, favorable press, Mayor Alioto gained the public support needed to rezone soma for the Yerba Buena center, displacing older residents living on welfare in hotels. He also approved SFRA’s plan to redevelop the Western Addition as it was considered “blighted” but really a move to displace the black population.

FUCK benjamin swig (owner of fairmount hotel) for convincing the Bay Area Council (BAC) to rezone 6 blocks in soma so he could resell it at a high place, leading to displacement. I understand trying to get the bag but that’s straight up evil.
