“I’m a great believer,” she said, laughing as she turned on her side towards him and stroked his cheek. “Believer of what?” His eyes were fixed on hers. Adam Brady had got his girl. “That every girl should get her fairy tale. ’Cause I’ve just got mine,” and she pressed her lips against his leaving him in no doubt about how the fairy tale ended.

Turned out his ex had done more of a number on him than he’d expected. But he couldn’t let that effect how things turned out with Lisa. He’d never met anyone like her – and there was so much to like. From her dirty laugh to her commitment to pleasing her clients – not to mention her devotion to volunteering. Only thing was, was Lisa as interested in him as he was in her?

A little feeling of dread was creeping up on him. What must Lisa have thought when she woke up this morning to an empty bed and no note? He groaned. She wouldn’t know it hadn’t been intentional. She wouldn’t know he’d expected to be back in an hour. There was every chance that, after a killer date, he was in the proverbial dog house.

He kept his arms around her, letting the warmth of her body meld with his. He didn’t care about her reactions the other night. He didn’t care about the tiny seeds of doubt that had wiggled their way into his mind. This was what mattered. This was what was important. “I’m so sorry about your sister,” he murmured.

Dr. Brady, are you asking me out on a date?” “I might be.” She put one hand on her hip. “How do you know I don’t have a husband and ranch full of children?” He pointed to her hand. “No ring. Also known as Luscious Lisa, The Fairy Tale Bride, or sometimes just the Lady in Black.” Adam glanced towards the bar. Was she here? But the place was packed and he couldn’t see her at all. “How many nicknames can one girl have?

Adam felt himself cringe and he took a step back. Publicity. In spades. In the middle of Marietta. The last thing he wanted. Marietta was his salvation. His sanctuary. He’d moved across states to get away from publicity. A celebrity wedding? Reporters and photographers would swarm around here for miles. It would be a nightmare.

The shade of pink was just wrong. Or was it really orange? She didn’t know what she’d been thinking. Then again, that had been the day she’d just heard her sister had married her runaway ex-fiancé –so maybe she did have an excuse for having a mini meltdown. Sometime soon she’d have to surreptitiously dispose of those dresses and deny they’d ever existed.
