I don't think I can finish this book.. it's just not what I expected at all and honestly I'm finding the prose really awkward and the story really boring. It's not the interesting linguistic journey I thought it would be. Is it wrong to not finish a book?

This book is written in present tense, and so far it's really off putting. Eg. "Meiling had fallen asleep on the couch and wakes up with her jacket shrouding her face, blocking the light".
I will endure because the story seems interesting (A man who suffers from brain trauma and loses his ability to speak Chinese, and finds himself only able to communicate with the rudimentary English skills from his childhood).
