The Mom character is disappointing me a bit. Maybe the author is trying to avoid portraying the perfect unattainably mother-figure, but they've gone too far in the direction in some moments. She over-reacts, threatening to ground the girls in moments when I would have preferred more empathy or concern (your kid looking up adult websites is a moment for a serious concern, not a punishment)

Also, the rich aunt saying that she doesn't trust online payments and only wants to pay by check, incredible

I'm softening my initial response. Some interesting modernization - the March family is a blended one. Certain characters are made more sympathetic, like Amy's teacher who catches her drawing in class and Meg's rich friend Kennedy. Also, pretty sure we're getting gay Jo in this, excellent news

This feels very one-to-one, so it's good if you want your child to read the original Little Women as much as possible. I was hoping for more of an adaptation though, so I'm a bit sad - the only interesting change so far is that Amy likes to draw monster comics.
Also, the language is still similar to the original. What teen in the 20th century casually uses the word "deluded"?
