Not a chance! I don't understand the whole LT thing. I don't think I could care for two persons at the same time, not that way at least. Seriously, wanting two people just means that you don't really want either one of them. But what do I know?
I think it can be well done, as long as the author does a good job of showing why both love interests are appealing. But it's rare. Most authors have a hard enough time writing even one love interest that I like. :P
So true. I can't think of a single literary love triangle I actually enjoyed. I'm trying really hard, going through my library on iTunes, but nothing. Not one.Ah, there. I hated the LT in the Skinwalker series because I was very attached to one of the characters, but I still think it was extremely well done.
You tell me about so many UFs I've never even heard of. PS--I feel like we've barely spoken today. Hello! *waves*
True! I had a crazy day yesterday, I've barely been around. Hello to you, too. Missed you! I am now forced to read some barely known UF authors or wait for some new installments. I think I've pretty much read everything worth reading. The Skinwalker series is not for everyone, though, it's dark UF and I doubt you'd like it. Try reading Chichipio's review if you're interested.
I was thinking about the LT problem last night, and the only other series I can come up with is Diana Rowland's Kara Gillian.
I can only think of a couple of YA love triangles where I liked both boys. But even then one boy is still better than the other, at least for the heroine...it just takes a little while to get there. It's so funny you pointed me to Chichi's review of Skinwalker (which was excellent, hah), when it's so opposite to yours!
I'm hoping As Meat Loves Salt gets here within the next couple of days so we can start our next readalong. :) I'm in the middle of a couple of things I really like right now, but I should be done with them soon.
Anytime works for me, really. I'm mostly on vacation... I don't know how long that will last as I will most likely find something to keep myself busy, but for now, I'm free as a bird. Oh, the Skinwalker thing is simple: Chich wrote the truth whereas my rating was based entirely on emotions. Also, I went with audiobooks for that series so the flaws in writing weren't that apparent. The thing I liked most about it, and he failed to notice and/or mention, is that you never know what's going to happen. I was always on the edge of my seat.
That's actually the only series we don't agree on. :D
Oh, I forgot, there are many love triangles where I liked both boys... if that's the criteria, then I know many that were very well done. But it's the anguish I can't stand... I always feel awful for the boy that gets left behing (case in point: Adrian).
Ahhh. I misunderstood then, because I feel as though the ones where I really do feel anguish for the left behind boy is when the love triangle is actually well done! Otherwise the girl is just being stupid. Adrian-Dimitri-Rose was one of the triangles I was thinking of, actually. The other was Infernal Devices' Tessa-Will-Jem. I can think of a couple of others that came close, but in the end there was no contest.
You didn't misunderstand, I'm just weird that way. I don't deal well with anguish/frustration.Most of the time, the boy I like loses anyway. I had to stop reading Nightshade for that very reason. (view spoiler) I wanted Ren to win, but he can't possibly. That much is obvious.
Oh, I felt the same way! Ren was so much more interesting/attractive than the other guy, who the author kept trying to push. I don't know how it will all end up, but that whole triangle was not handled well at all. The cover was so beautiful (and I love werewolves), so it was especially disappointing that the writing and the story didn't live up to it.
The whole thing didn't make much sense to me. Why would all these strong, alpha werewolves obey the Keepers for generations without asking any questions? Maybe I should have finished the book, I only made it halfway through, but it was ridiculous.
Yes, the mythology wasn't very well thought out. If I see the book at the library, I may pick it up at some point to find out what happens, but I barely remember the previous one.
It made me sad because I'd read some pretty decent reviews and I had high expectations. It's not often that I can't force myself to finish a book.
Heh, I am butting into this conversation, but is this book that awful one about this woman with some lame superpower and then this sharp-suited gangsta-type comes into town and takes her on a date, but she ends up with some local boy and itwassoboringthat'sallIcanremember?
Oh and something to do with a car and drowning? and the gangsta type had better superpowers? Okay, now that's REALLY all I remember!
LOL, you just described pretty much every other urban fantasy book out there. But yes, I think that sums it up nicely. It's not that awful, really, just nothing special. Ashfall, on the other hand... :D
Yeah, actually, I'm waiting for a damn internet connection at home. I have internet in office, where I can't read, and the book at home, with no internet! Ah, life's little ironies!
