We witness the scene of what seems to be major police malfeasance in dealing with our heroine. This seems like a new twist in a new era regarding relations with the police. Overt overreaction and brutality did not come to mind in previous books immediately.

The events in this series are not always extremely complicated. Coincidence of individuals and events are not uncommon. It all just goes to show that Chicago is really just a small town. Ha ha.

Reading Paretsky a few years later, finds her just as progressive as ever! Talking about the poor status of healthcare for low income people at the moment.

I stopped reading this series sometime ago, and I thought it was completed, but I see now that it has continued on in my absence. This is the current “last” book. It occurs during the era of Covid.
