As I keep chipping away at LOTR (which is a perfectly fine read so far) I can't help but think about what an... institution the act of reading has become. Every time I turn the page, I'm thinking about Goodreads Reading Challenges and page counts and public reviews, about my own failures as a reader (what does that even mean?) and about being a "real" reader and if I even want to be a reader at all. It's so strange
