Wait wait wait wait wait wait, that's a flat out misinterpretation of the study.
It's not "more time to complete a task often means less efficient work"!
It's "working more hours leads to decreased output (per input)".
It's not that the task expands to fill the time, it's that you are worse at completing tasks after too much work. This is true for manual labor man, it's not ~one weird psych trick~.
