This book is suspect. A lot of it I know is relatively legit because it's historical record, and many of the connections he makes are logical. However, I do feel it is oversimplified, and I don't believe his personal accounts. Claudine sounds like the villain in a bad movie written by an teen boy for the wish fulfillment; there's no subtlety & there's a lack of accountability for all this "I was the bad guy" rhetoric

Having a plan forward is more important than burning it all down. Giving people a chance & understanding what pressures may drive them to act against the collective interest is good. But some of his words ring hollow after his chapters on CEO sociopaths & people DEMANDING their rights in every political movement--through violence, I might add! I think a multi-pronged approach is better than one methodology.

There's material that I feel is genuinely good information. There are personal stories that make me question the author's credibility. Then there's the pro-capitalist narrative that makes me further question him. It's funny how he spends so much time on the evils of corporation in the beginning, and then argues for civility and the power of consumer choice. Like, you JUST laid out all the arguments against that!

Actually, the "I was the bad guy' rhetoric strongly reminds me of Christian fundamentalists & prosperity gospel. Like, Mike Lindell. His whole schtick is that he was a bad dude with a drug problem who turned his life around & became rich. And he tries to leverage this Heel-Face Turn to give him an appearance of authority. Everyone loves a redemption arc! You WANT to root for him, & he claims special insight into evil
