{ He stayed focused on her, and she felt like a butterfly pinned to a wall with that gaze. No, a moth, she reminded herself, brutally honest. }

Nevermind, Stuart is making Benedick an asshole also. Ugh, Anne Stuart heroes, why do we like them????? Nay, love them!?!?

Benedick is not like most Stuart heroes---he's definitely not an anti-hero.

Look forward to Brandon's story. Heroes who aren't drop dead gorgeous (he was, but now has facial injuries) are few and far between.

My first Anne Stuart book. I've been meaning to read the Rohan series; hopefully it won't matter that I haven't read the others.

Catherine wrote: "So I'm guessing the heroine doesn't find herself attractive?"Yes, that's correct. She's kind of plain-looking, though of course the hero begins to not think so. From what I understand, that's common in Anne Stuart novels, right? This is the first of hers I've read. She does a good job of it, because it's not so overly-emphasized that one is like "enough already," but it's still there. The heroine has just the right amount of self-confidence and sense of self with just the right amount of vulnerability and doubt - finding that balance is often difficult.
She also had the whole hero-says-horrible-things-to-the-heroine-to-hurt-her-so-she-runs-away-even-though-he-loves-her-but-maybe-doesn't-realize-it-yet, which drives me nuts! And from the reviews I've read, that is something she frequently has in her novels. That and Big Misunderstandings are my biggest pet peeves with HRs.
